Gachiakuta: Breakout, the anime's video game unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2026

Published on September 19, 2026·By Antoine Brault

A French cosplay and manga goods shop since 2023. We try on the costumes we sell, and we write about the series we actually follow. About us.

Quick answer: Com2uS unveiled the official title and first gameplay trailer of Gachiakuta: Breakout on September 17, 2026 at Tokyo Game Show, the video game based on the anime of the same name. Coming in 2027 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam, this action RPG puts Rudo, Enjin, Zanka, and Riyo up against the monsters of the Pit, the bottomless dump at the heart of the series.

What is Gachiakuta?

A manga by Kei Urana, serialized since February 2022 in Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine, with 19 volumes out in Japan as of summer 2026. The story follows Rudo, a teenager from the Sphere, a floating city split into rigid castes, where Tribesfolk like him inherit the contempt reserved for his biological father, a serial killer. Framed for the murder of his foster father Regto, Rudo is thrown into the Pit, a bottomless dump nobody has ever returned from.

Taken in by Enjin after surviving his first encounter with the Pit's trash creatures, Rudo joins the Cleaners, teams able to turn a discarded object into a living weapon, a Vital Instrument, through a power called Anima. Studio Bones' anime adaptation covered the first 24 episodes between July 6 and December 22, 2025, in VOSTFR and English dub simulcast on Crunchyroll from day one. A second season was confirmed the same day as the finale, December 21, 2025, with no air date announced yet.

Gachiakuta: Breakout, the video game unveiled at Tokyo Game Show 2026

Com2uS first showed the project under the working title "Gachiakuta: The Game" at AnimeJapan 2026, held March 28-29 at Tokyo Big Sight. Six months later, during the Xbox TGS 2026 Showcase on September 17, the Korean publisher revealed the final title, GACHIAKUTA: BREAKOUT, along with the very first gameplay footage.

The studio describes a survival action RPG that recreates the world of the Pit in full 3D. The revealed footage shows Rudo, Enjin, Zanka, and Riyo, each with a distinct weapon and fighting style, followed by a boss fight against the character Jabber, with the player controlling Zanka to dodge his attacks. "Reimagining the atmosphere of the anime" is the phrase the publisher used to sum up the project's ambition.

Who are Rudo, Enjin, Zanka, and Riyo?

Four playable characters are confirmed in the first trailer, all part of the same group of Cleaners the anime calls Team Akuta. Each fights with a different Vital Instrument, the manga's own way of expressing the idea that gives the series its name: turning trash into a weapon.

Two details stand out in this lineup. Riyo, a former hitwoman turned one of the group's most energetic members, is often the one who lightens the mood in the anime. Zanka, meanwhile, is the one Com2uS picked to face Jabber in the trailer demo, a choice that suggests his more technical fighting style in the manga is meant to show off the game's dodge system.

When does Gachiakuta: Breakout release, and on which platforms?

In 2027, with no month specified so far, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Steam. No Switch 2, PS4, or mobile version has been announced. Com2uS has opened an official brand site for the game, where visitors can wishlist it on Steam or Xbox and find the trailer and final logo.

That window is wide, which is normal for a game that only just got its name: between the AnimeJapan reveal in March and a still-vague 2027 release, Com2uS is taking its time polishing a demanding genre, the action RPG, built on source material barely two seasons old.

Do you need to have watched the anime to play?

No, but it helps. The game recreates the world of the Pit and its rules (Tribesfolk, Cleaners, Vital Instruments) without it being clear yet whether it follows the manga's story or tells a parallel one with the same characters, a common approach for this kind of adaptation. Season 1 is available in full on Crunchyroll, subbed or dubbed.

Bakashop doesn't carry any Gachiakuta merchandise yet, the anime only has one season and the game only exists as a trailer so far. If the wave keeps building, a first accessory will probably make it into the catalog eventually. In the meantime, two other franchises just announced their own video game adaptations around the same time: Yu-Gi-Oh! Tag Force GX, revealed during a Nintendo Direct for February 2027, and Bandai's Naruto Card Game, expected summer 2027. The rest of our manga and anime goodies are right next door, in our cosplay section.
