A fourth TV season, for 2027, presented during the anime's tenth anniversary event. The announcement came with a teaser visual and a video in which Aqua introduces the franchise's upcoming projects.
The visual deliberately says very little: Kazuma, Aqua, Megumin and Darkness are seen from behind, facing a break of light, without a single hint about the arc being adapted or any action scene. It is a statement of intent, not a content reveal.

The staff: who returns, who joins
There is real continuity on writing and design, the change sits with the director and the studio.

Kanasaki has been with the franchise since the first season, and his presence as chief director is what reassures readers the most. Uezu on series composition and Kikuta on character design mean the writing and the faces will not drift somewhere else.
Three studios in four seasons: what it changes
This is the real talking point since the announcement. KonoSuba is changing studios for the third time: Deen for seasons 1 and 2, Drive for season 3 and the Megumin spin-off, ENGI for this fourth season. Few shows of that standing have such a track record.
Reactions are mixed, between excitement at a confirmed sequel and jokes about this studio merry-go-round. It is worth staying measured though: on a comedy, success depends less on the studio's name than on comic timing, facial expressions and animation direction. And that is precisely where keeping Kanasaki, Uezu and Kikuta counts.
What is verifiable today is the make-up of the team. The rest, the animation quality, cannot be judged from a press release.
Which light novel volumes season 4 will adapt
Season 3 covered volumes 6 and 7 of the light novel by Natsume Akatsuki, illustrated by Kurone Mishima. The logical continuation therefore places season 4 on volumes 8 and 9, but be careful: that continuity is inferred, it was not confirmed in the announcement.

Where the series stands and where to pick it up
Season 3 aired from April to June 2024, across eleven episodes, at Drive. In between, the franchise never left the field: a spin-off centred on Megumin, An Explosion on This Wonderful World!, released in 2023, then OVA episodes screened in Japanese theatres in March 2025, after which a sequel was teased.
The Megumin spin-off deserves a word for anyone who skipped it. It covers her school years, the origin of her obsession with Explosion magic, and fleshes out the Crimson Demons around her, including her rival Yunyun and her little sister Komekko. It was directed by Yujiro Abe, with Kanasaki supervising. It is not required to follow the main series, but it is what gives the most depth to the franchise's most cosplayed character.
What was not announced
Worth stating plainly, because plenty of pages will pad around the gaps. As of 27 July 2026, there is no information at all on: the month or quarter of the 2027 release, the episode count, the streaming platform by country, a trailer showing season 4 animation, or the officially adapted arc.
So be wary of articles announcing "spring 2027" or an episode count: nothing of the sort has been communicated. This page will be updated when it is.
