When does The One Piece come out on Netflix?
February 2027, everywhere in the world at the same time. Netflix announced the window in May 2026 alongside the first poster, and WIT Studio president George Wada has just reconfirmed it in an interview published by Anime News Network on September 25, 2026: "The One Piece, which will be released in February 2027." The exact day, however, is still not public.
The other certainty changes everything for a One Piece show: no weekly broadcast. All seven episodes drop on the same day, binge-style, while the original anime has kept its Sunday appointment since 1999. For a story many people never start because of its 1,100+ episodes, a season you can finish in one or two evenings is exactly the pitch Netflix is making.

The teaser has been online since June 24, 2026, in every Netflix language. The subtitled version also lives on Netflix's main channel, and the final shot is the same everywhere: young Luffy clenching his fist, already ready to fight for his hat.
How many episodes, and which part of the manga?
Seven episodes totalling around 300 minutes, which means 42 to 43 minutes each, double a classic TV format. This first season adapts the manga's first 50 chapters, the beginning of the East Blue saga. Episode 1 carries the title of chapter 1: Romance Dawn.

The math tells you the pacing: fifty chapters in five hours, where the 1999 series covered the same ground across dozens of 24-minute episodes, recaps included. The implicit promise is a tighter story with no filler, built for someone discovering One Piece in 2027. And seven episodes labelled "season 1" also says nobody plans to stop at Arlong Park if the audience shows up.
Remake or reboot? What the WIT version changes
It is not a remake of the 1999 anime. George Wada made that clear in August 2026: The One Piece starts over from the manga, not from the TV series. A full reboot, with its own structure, its own art direction and its own creative team, designed as a second doorway into Oda's story.

Every visual released over the past year leans into that return to the source. The May 2026 poster opens on kid Luffy in the Foosha Village bar, the very scene that opens the manga. And the key visual unveiled at Anime NYC on August 20, 2026 recreates the composition of the manga's chapter 1 cover, scattered treasure and seagulls included. The message to long-time readers is plain: we are doing the voyage again from panel one.

Who is making The One Piece?
WIT Studio, the studio behind Attack on Titan seasons 1 to 3, Spy x Family and Vinland Saga, with a team that largely comes from Titan: Masashi Koizuka, assistant director on season 1 then series director on seasons 2 and 3, directs the show, and Kyoji Asano, Attack on Titan's character designer, draws the characters alongside Takatoshi Honda.
The scripts are in the hands of Taku Kishimoto, who went through Studio Ghibli before handling series composition on Haikyu!!, Erased and the Fruits Basket remake. On the production side, the posters line up Shueisha, Toei Animation, Fuji Television, WIT Studio and Netflix. Yes, Toei: the studio animating the weekly One Piece since 1999 sits on the reboot's production committee, which buries the idea of a war between the two versions. Wada also notes that WIT now employs more than 300 people.

On the voice side, only one name is confirmed, and it is the one that matters most: Mayumi Tanaka, Luffy's voice since 1999, is back. "While taking on a new challenge at this age brought some anxiety, the experience itself has been full of new insights. It has truly renewed my spirit in playing Luffy," she said in comments relayed by GamesRadar. Twenty-seven years in the role, and a reboot that keeps her voice: the opposite choice from the live action, which recast everyone. The rest of the cast has not been announced as of September 25, 2026.
What George Wada just said at Anime Expo
In the interview conducted by Bamboo Dong for Anime News Network, published this September 25, 2026, the WIT Studio president talks about the project with more excitement than pressure, and repeats two things: the February 2027 window, and the show's worldwide ambition.
Two sentences sum up his position. "I consider One Piece one of Japan's most precious manga, so I'm really looking forward to bringing it to the world." Then, on the studio's state of mind: "We're really excited. In Japanese, we'd say 'waku waku.' There is some fear and anxiety about heading somewhere we haven't been before. But the excitement is even greater than that." For a studio that built its reputation on Attack on Titan before watching it move to MAPPA, taking on the best-selling manga in history is both a consecration and a calculated risk.
Three One Piece shows on Netflix: which is which?
By February 2027, Netflix will host three takes on the same story: Toei's long-running anime, the live action with Iñaki Godoy, and WIT's animated reboot. They do not replace each other, they aim at three different audiences, and the table below sorts them at a glance.

For the original anime, platforms vary by country, and I already covered where to watch One Piece and the Elbaph arc episode schedule. Netflix, meanwhile, keeps stacking projects on the license: after the live action, the LEGO One Piece two-part special lands on September 29, four days after this page goes up. The timeline fits in three dates: announcement at Jump Festa in December 2023 with this sketch, teaser and release window in 2026, series in February 2027. Three years between announcement and screen is long, and it matches the level of polish the teaser shows.
On the shop side, I have watched the Netflix effect since the live action: the Luffy straw hat at 19.99 euros remains one of the most ordered entry points of the aisle, 4.9 out of 5 across 25 reviews. Kathleen, a customer from the United States, wrote in April 2025: "incredible, Luffy's hat, it looks like the one from the live action, perfect for my cosplay" (translated from Spanish). Honest note: it runs small, several reviews recommend it for a child or a smaller head. Does The One Piece have an exact release date?
No. As of September 25, 2026, Netflix only communicates "February 2027", with no day attached. The window was announced in May 2026 with the first poster, then reconfirmed by George Wada in the Anime News Network interview of September 25. This page will be updated as soon as the day drops.
Does The One Piece replace Toei's anime?
