When does Dragon Ball Super: Beerus come out?

The date landed on September 2 with a new trailer called Super Surge, together with the theme songs and a new key visual. Three days before Japanese TV, on Thursday, October 8, episode 1 gets its world premiere screening at New York Comic Con.
The announcement itself is not new: the project was revealed in January 2026 during Genki-Dama Matsuri, the franchise's anniversary event, and a second trailer was shown on April 19 at the Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour in Los Angeles. What had been missing for nine months was an actual day. Now it is set, and the symbolism is heavy: the Dragon Ball Super brand had not aired a new TV episode since March 2018, when the original run ended after 131 episodes. Eight and a half years, the longest wait in the franchise's history.
One detail made me smile while preparing this article: the 2015 series aired on Sundays at 9 am, a kids' slot. Beerus arrives on Sundays at 11:15 pm, a slot for people in their thirties who grew up with Dragon Ball Z. Fuji TV knows exactly who will be watching.

What does the "enhanced" version actually change?
Neither a sequel nor a plain HD remaster. Toei Animation is re-editing the 2015 series: the September 3 press release announces "a large volume of newly added and redrawn cuts" and "a reconstructed narrative", with the whole picture re-rendered. In practice, the story you know is replayed faster, closer to the manga's linework, and stripped of the filler episodes of the time.
The staff list says what kind of project this is. Tadayoshi Yamamuro, Dragon Ball Z's long-time character designer, handles the design and general animation direction. Matsuto Seya is credited with "composition and direction arrangement", a job title you never see on a brand-new series: you do not direct Beerus, you rearrange it. Norihito Sumitomo, already the composer of the 2015 series and the recent films, returns. And Akira Toriyama remains credited for the original work, story and character design: a posthumous credit, two and a half years after his death in March 2024, a reminder that everything the series tells comes from his material.
The starting point does not move. "Several years have passed since the fierce battle against Majin Buu, and Earth has finally regained a brief moment of peace," states the series' website. Then Beerus, the God of Destruction, wakes up, hears about a Saiyan who defeated Frieza, and goes to have a look.

Which Dragon Ball Super arcs are covered?
The only arc confirmed in plain words is the Beerus saga, the equivalent of the Battle of Gods film. But the clues go further: April's trailer ends on Frieza in a rejuvenation tank, and the Super Surge visual shows Golden Frieza and his army swooping down on Earth. Resurrection F is clearly on the menu. Beyond that, nothing has been detailed.

Another clue that has not travelled much: on the visual and the trailer thumbnail, Goku is wrapped in a crackling blue aura that strongly evokes Ultra Instinct, a transformation the 2015 series only reaches long after Golden Frieza. I draw no conclusion from it, and neither does Toei, but the image is there. Where can you watch Dragon Ball Super: Beerus outside Japan?
Nowhere for now, and that is the real blind spot of the announcement. As of September 3, no broadcaster outside Japan has been confirmed. The visual does promise "broadcasting and streaming begins" for October 2026, but without naming a single platform, in Japan or anywhere else.
The most likely scenario is no secret: Crunchyroll carries the 2015 series, the films and Daima in most countries. But likely is not signed, and I would rather write it as it is than copy an assumed certainty: this page will be updated the day a simulcast is announced. Only one screening outside Japan is guaranteed before the broadcast: the New York Comic Con one, on Thursday, October 8 from 12:00 to 12:45 pm on the Javits Center's Empire Stage, with Jason Douglas and Ian Sinclair, the English voices of Beerus and Whis, and Monica Rial hosting. A New York audience will see episode 1 three days before Japanese viewers do. It is the same weekend and the same stage as the Naruto panel on October 10 and its "new project": a loaded convention for shonen fans.
What do the three trailers show?
Three trailers mark out the year, all on Toei Animation's YouTube channel, and they answer each other: the first sets up the face-off, the second shows the redrawn fights, the third delivers the date and the theme songs. The opening is called "ONOGAMI", by MEGATERA・ZERO, and the ending "Kan Peki No Peki", by Vickeblanka, both confirmed with September's trailer.
