In short: The Hinokami Chronicles 2, the Demon Slayer fighting game, hits Nintendo Switch 2 on Thursday, October 29, 2026. SEGA pairs the launch with a Digital Ultimate Edition at $64.99 that bundles the game with all its DLC, and a permanent price drop: the standard edition now sits at $39.99 on every platform.
When does The Hinokami Chronicles 2 come out on Nintendo Switch 2?
October 29, 2026, in Japan and the West alike. The Switch 2 Edition of Demon Slayer -Kimetsu no Yaiba- The Hinokami Chronicles 2 was first announced in late June through Weekly Shonen Jump; the press release SEGA published on October 14 locks the date and finally details the editions and their prices.
In practice, this version runs at 60 frames per second with reworked visuals, where the 2017 Switch topped out at 30. Cross-play between both consoles is in, with one logical limit reported by the press at announcement time: a match against a player still on Switch drops back to 30 frames per second. VS mode lines up 54 fighters once the Character Pass is installed, a first for the series.

Some context on the game itself: released on August 1, 2025 in Japan and August 5 everywhere else, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam and Switch, it picks the story up where the first Hinokami Chronicles stopped, from the Entertainment District to the Hashira Training arc. It is an arena fighter by CyberConnect2, the studio behind the Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm games, and the fights show it.

What does each edition contain, and at what price?
Three editions coexist since October 14: the Digital Standard at $39.99, the Digital Ultimate at $64.99 which adds the Infinity Castle Character Pass and every bonus, and the physical Switch 2 release at $59.99, pass included. The Digital Ultimate is also available right now on the platforms already served.
| Edition | MSRP | What it contains |
|---|---|---|
| Digital Standard | $39.99 | The game, plus 2 Academy character keys (Rengoku and Uzui) |
| Digital Ultimate | $64.99 | The game, the Infinity Castle Character Pass, 6 character keys, 3 battle outfits, the Upper Rank Demons system voices |
| Physical Switch 2 Edition | $59.99 (7,810 yen in Japan) | The game and the Infinity Castle Character Pass |
| Infinity Castle Character Pass alone | £24.99 | The 7 Infinity Castle characters |
The real news in the press release is the permanent price drop, which also covers the first Hinokami Chronicles: $39.99 for the standard edition, $49.99 for the deluxe, on PS5, PS4, Xbox, Steam and Switch. At the August 2025 launch, the standard sold for $59.99: the new grid is a third less. Euro prices for the new lineup were not yet published as I write this on October 15; the dollar grid gives the order of magnitude, check your store before confirming the cart.

Which characters does the Infinity Castle Character Pass add?
Seven fighters drawn from the Demon Slayer: Infinity Castle film: Tanjiro, Zenitsu, Giyu, Shinobu and Akaza in their Infinity Castle versions, plus Doma and Kaigaku. The pass rolled out from October 2025, with Kaigaku, to May 2026, with Doma, and sells for £24.99, or £3.99 per character.
The pass's Japanese name specifies "first chapter" of the Infinity Castle arc: it maps to the first film of the trilogy, the one that broke the box office in 2025. Doma, last to arrive on May 28, 2026, fights with his fans and ice techniques; Akaza unrolls his Blood Demon Art, Crushing Type: Collapse and Explosive Flurry included.

The Hashira also received their combined attacks: Giyu and Shinobu's Dual Ultimates pair their Water and Insect techniques. If those two speak to you more in fabric than in pixels, we sell the Shinobu costume at 29.99 euros, rated 4.7 out of 5 across 26 reviews. Chloé Martin, customer, October 14, 2025: "wore it at a convention all day long, no issue" (translated from French). The Giyu Tomioka costume is the same price, and to pick your character before buying, our Demon Slayer cosplay guide compares the catalog's outfits piece by piece.

How do you unlock Muzan Kibutsuji?
Muzan is free. SEGA added him to VS mode through an update on September 17, 2025: download the latest version of the game and he joins the fight, locally or online. He is not part of the Character Pass, and no purchase is required.
Smart move: the series' great villain draws everyone in, and putting him behind a paywall would have stung. His white-hat gentleman look remains a fearsome costume idea, by the way; still, the Tanjiro wig at 16.99 euros, 4.7 out of 5 across 46 reviews, remains the most requested entry point of our aisle.

Should you buy the game again if you already own it on Switch?
No. SEGA's October 14 press release announces a free upgrade to the Switch 2 Edition for anyone who owns the Switch version, boxed or digital, transferable saves included. One caveat: the Infinity Castle Character Pass is not part of the upgrade, it must be bought separately on the eShop.
A market note, because the two announcements do not say the same thing: in Japan, where Aniplex publishes the game, the press reported in June a paid upgrade pack at 550 yen. The free upgrade comes from the Western October release. Two publishers, two habits; if you play on a Japanese account, expect to pay.
Owning the other Demon Slayer games also unlocks save-linked bonuses on Switch 2: the first Hinokami Chronicles grants six Academy character keys, and the party game Sweep the Board! adds the Hinatsuru, Makio and Suma trio plus a cooking outfit for Tanjiro. And if the Infinity Castle arc is what brings you here, the first film of the trilogy has been streaming on Netflix since late September, we detailed the dates in our article on Infinity Castle on Netflix. The rest of our replica swords, outfits and jewelry awaits in the Demon Slayer collection.

On PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam and Nintendo Switch since August 2025, and on Nintendo Switch 2 from October 29, 2026. The physical Switch 2 release is confirmed for North and South America; as of October 15, no boxed edition has been announced for Europe.
How many playable characters in total?
54 fighters in VS mode once the Infinity Castle Character Pass is installed, Muzan included. The base roster covers every Hashira, a first for the series, and the Academy versions of several characters unlock through keys depending on the edition you pick.
Which anime arcs does the story mode cover?
From the Entertainment District to the Hashira Training arc, picking up where the first game stopped at the Mugen Train. The Infinity Castle arc is not in the story mode: it arrives through the Character Pass, as playable characters for VS mode.

Yes. Save data from the original Switch version is compatible with the Switch 2 Edition and carries over during the upgrade. Story progress and unlocked characters follow; the Character Pass stays tied to its own purchase.
Did the first Hinokami Chronicles get a price cut too?
Yes. The permanent price drop of October 14, 2026 applies to both games: $39.99 for the standard edition and $49.99 for the deluxe, on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Steam and Switch. The full story, from the recruitment arc to Hashira Training, now costs 80 dollars.
Is the Infinity Castle Character Pass complete?
All seven announced characters have been available since Doma arrived on May 28, 2026. The pass's Japanese name mentions the Infinity Castle's "first chapter", and the film trilogy still has two parts to go, but no second pass has been announced as of October 15, 2026.
