In short: Masashi Kishimoto is working on a new NARUTO manga titled SHADOW RISING. The announcement landed on October 10, 2026, at the close of the "NARUTO: What's Next?" panel at New York Comic Con, through a video teaser. No date, no magazine for now: details are promised for Jump Festa, December 19 and 20, 2026.
What exactly is NARUTO: SHADOW RISING?
A new NARUTO manga by Masashi Kishimoto, the creator of the series. The project was revealed through a teaser shown at the very end of the New York panel, closing on a blood-red calligraphy logo: NARUTO, with SHADOW RISING above it. Shueisha confirms the project, and that is all that is confirmed.
The setting of the announcement was anything but random. The "NARUTO: What's Next?" panel took place on Saturday, October 10, 2026, Naruto's birthday, from 5 to 6 p.m. on the Empire Stage of the Javits Center, in front of about 3,000 people and sold out according to the VIZ Media press release. On stage: Junko Takeuchi and Noriaki Sugiyama, the Japanese voices of Naruto and Sasuke, joined by Yoshihiro Tominaga, executive producer at Pierrot Films. We had been following this event since the countdown appeared in August; the full context is in our article on the NYCC panel.

When does Kishimoto's new manga come out?
No date as of October 11, 2026. Shueisha has announced no launch window, no serialization magazine, no reading platform. The next step is set, though: the first details will be given at Jump Festa '27, December 19 and 20, 2026, at Makuhari Messe near Tokyo.
The specialized press is betting on a 2027 serialization, but that is a guess, not an announcement. If December's event intrigues you, we covered its program, its three stages and its ticket system in our Jump Festa 2027 guide; all three stages will be streamed live on YouTube, so you can follow the announcement from anywhere.
To measure the event, dates help. The original NARUTO manga ran from September 21, 1999 to November 10, 2014 in Weekly Shonen Jump: 700 chapters across fifteen years. Since then, Kishimoto had only returned to the drawing board for the Minato one-shot in July 2023, and he oversees the story of Boruto: Two Blue Vortex while Mikio Ikemoto holds the pen. SHADOW RISING is therefore his first new NARUTO manga in twelve years, and that changes the nature of the wait.
What does the SHADOW RISING teaser show?
Drawings, not anime footage. According to Gamerant's breakdown, the video lines up sketches of Naruto, Sasuke, Kakashi and Sakura, an illustration of Sasuke in the rain, and ends on a face-off between Naruto and Sasuke, right before the red logo.
Those sketches are what the press bases its reading of the story's era on: right after the Fourth Great Ninja War, when Kakashi has just been named Sixth Hokage, Naruto not yet fitted with his new arm, Sasuke out on the roads. In other words the "blank period" between chapters 699 and 700, never told in manga form. Let me say it plainly: Shueisha has validated neither story, nor characters, nor era. The press release sticks to "a new NARUTO manga by Masashi Kishimoto", and everything else is deduction.
That period, readers mostly know through the novels. If Kakashi as Hokage speaks to you, we happen to sell the replica notebook of Kakashi's book at 14.99 euros, rated 4.8 out of 5 across 17 reviews. Ute Engel, a German customer, in May 2025: "From the outside it really looks like Kakashi's naughty book, and inside it's notebook pages". On the jewelry side, the Itachi ring at 14.99 euros holds the best score of the shelf, 5 out of 5 across 26 reviews; the rest lives in the Naruto collection.
What is PROJECT RASENGAN?
The worldwide roadmap the franchise picked for its "new phase": PROJECT RASENGAN connects the upcoming NARUTO and BORUTO manga, anime, games and events, with, per the press release, "several projects still to be announced". A key visual showing Naruto and his Rasengan comes with the launch, along with a dedicated trailer.

SHADOW RISING is the first visible stone of that roadmap, and December's Jump Festa will serve as the second meeting point. My advice as a reader: don't expect everything at once. Multi-year programs like this one drip their announcements event after event.
And the NARUTO×NINKŪ anime, when is it coming?
No date either, but a settled format: four episodes, a fully original story supervised by Masashi Kishimoto and Koji Kiriyama, the creator of Ninku. Noriyuki Abe, who directed the Ninku anime in 1995 and led Boruto, directs; Tetsuya Nishio, already behind the character designs of the Naruto anime, handles designs and chief animation direction.
The starting point: Kakashi unavailable, Naruto takes the lead of Team 7 as acting captain, and a mission gone wrong sends Naruto, Sasuke and Sakura into the world of Ninku, where they run into Fūsuke. Rica Matsumoto, who already voiced Fūsuke in 1995 and whom everyone knows as the Japanese voice of Ash in Pokémon, returns to the role. Kishimoto summed up his debt in one sentence read at the panel: "Without NINKŪ, NARUTO would not exist."

Ninku, for context: a manga by Koji Kiriyama published in Weekly Shonen Jump from 1993 to 1995, nine volumes, adapted by Pierrot into 55 episodes aired in 1995 and 1996. Adala News sees this crossover as the return of the four-episode anniversary project announced in 2023 and postponed without a date; the press release itself calls the anime "completely new" and never draws that link, so I won't draw it in its place.
Card game, mobile game, movie: the panel's other announcements
The panel also dated the NARUTO CARD GAME, confirmed the worldwide release of the mobile game and gave news of the live-action movie. Here is the exact state of each project as of October 11, 2026:
| Announcement | What is confirmed | Date | Next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| NARUTO: SHADOW RISING manga | Title, author: Masashi Kishimoto | None | Details at Jump Festa, December 19-20 |
| PROJECT RASENGAN | Worldwide NARUTO and BORUTO roadmap | Launched | New announcements at Jump Festa |

| NARUTO mobile game | Worldwide release of the 2016 Chinese game | TBA | Details at Jump Festa |

The card game is the most advanced file: simultaneous worldwide launch in June 2027, three starter decks led by Naruto, Sasuke and Gaara, a first booster named "Enter: Naruto Uzumaki!", in-store demos from February to March 2027 according to Anime News Network, and one million demo decks distributed in spring. The trailer shown at the panel, animated by Pierrot around Jiraiya, is up on the same YouTube channel. We have been tracking this game since its very first announcement; the full file is in our NARUTO CARD GAME article.

The mobile game, an action battle game launched in mainland China in 2016, will release worldwide on a date still to be announced. As for the live-action movie, Destin Daniel Cretton sent a video message confirming that work is moving forward, with no date or casting beyond what we knew; our full rundown remains the Naruto live-action movie article. And on the manga side, nothing changes for the ongoing series: Boruto: Two Blue Vortex keeps its rhythm, which we discussed in our article on the chapter 37 pause.
