In short: Tanjiro's earrings are hanafuda: flower-card shaped pendants stamped with a red sun, handed down in the Kamado family since Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the inventor of Sun Breathing. Muzan recognises them at first glance, which is why he sends his demons after Tanjiro. The replica sold here costs 16.99 euros, as clip-on, pierced or hook, rated 4.9 out of 5 by fifteen customers.
Where do Tanjiro's earrings come from?
From Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the Sengoku-era slayer who created Sun Breathing, the technique every other Breathing style descends from. His mother had made them for him. Before vanishing, Yoriichi entrusted them to Sumiyoshi Kamado, Tanjiro's ancestor, together with the dance he had just shown him. The Kamados kept both, father to son, under the name Hinokami Kagura.
That is why Tanjuro, Tanjiro's father, dances in the snow every New Year with these earrings on: the "dance of the fire god" is not a family ritual, it is Sun Breathing preserved in a form nobody recognised for centuries. Tanjiro inherits the earrings and the dance without knowing what he is wearing. He only understands as the series goes on, when his dreams show him Sumiyoshi and the man with red marks dancing before him.

Tanjiro in the series' first trailer, released by Aniplex USA in 2019: the earrings are there from the very first frame.
In Koyoharu Gotōge's manga the earrings are visible from the first page of chapter one, in 2016, and in the anime from episode 1 in April 2019. They have never left his ears since, not during the Swordsmith Village arc, not in the Infinity Castle film. They are the one object on the character that runs through the whole story unchanged, and the only one that predates him.
Why is Muzan afraid of these earrings?
Because the last man who wore them nearly killed him. When Muzan Kibutsuji runs into Tanjiro in Asakusa, he does not react to the sword or the uniform: he stares at the earrings, and sees Yoriichi again. Muzan believed he had wiped out Sun Breathing along with everyone who knew it. The hanafuda tell him otherwise.

It is one of the series' quietest plot engines: Muzan, who never moves and lets the Moons do the work, sends two demons to kill a fifteen-year-old the moment they first meet. Not for what he did, for what he wears. The earrings are a wanted poster Tanjiro carries around without knowing it, and through them Yoriichi keeps frightening Muzan three hundred years after his death.
What exactly do the hanafuda earrings look like?
Two small rectangular white plates hanging from a thread, with a red sun at the top and rays running down over a mountain pattern. The name comes from hanafuda, the Japanese playing cards illustrated with flowers and seasons, whose elongated format they borrow. They are not real cards from the game: the motif is Gotōge's creation.

The motif up close: red sun, rays, hanging thread. Image from Crunchyroll's 2023 promotional reel.
The motif has a history outside the fiction. When the anime came out in 2019, viewers in South Korea and China saw a resemblance to the rising sun flag, the flag of the Japanese imperial army, a painful symbol in both countries. For those markets, broadcasters altered the animation: the rays were removed, leaving a red disc and a horizontal bar. The modified version was kept for the Mugen Train film and the Entertainment District arc. In Japan, in the manga, in the rest of the world and on every piece of merchandise, the original design has not changed.
| Version | Motif | Where you see it |
|---|---|---|
| Manga (Gotōge, 2016) | Red sun, rays, mountain pattern on white | VIZ Media volumes, colour pages |
| Anime in Japan and worldwide (ufotable, 2019) | Identical to the manga | Crunchyroll, theatrical films, merchandise |
| Anime in South Korea and China | Red disc and horizontal bar, no rays | Local broadcasters and Netflix in those countries, since 2019 |
| Bakashop replica | Red sun and rays on a white plate, metal thread and fastening | Three fastenings to choose from, 16.99 euros |
Clip-on, pierced or hook: which version of the replica to choose?
All three exist at the same price, 16.99 euros, on the same listing: clip-on for unpierced ears, the classic pierced version, and hooks. For a one-day cosplay, clip-ons save you from piercing your ears for a character; to wear them often, hooks hold better and go on in two seconds.
| Fastening | Who it is for | What to know |
|---|---|---|
| Clip-on | Unpierced ears, one-off cosplay, kids | They come off by catching on things: watch out for hoods and turtlenecks, as with Zoro's clips |
| Pierced | Regular wear, discreet outfit | Classic backing, the plate hangs freely and moves with your head, as in the anime |
| Hook | Those who wear them every day | Nickel-free hooks according to the listing, the quickest to put on and take off |

In the Infinity Castle the earrings follow every fall: image from the main trailer released by Sony Pictures.
A shopkeeper's detail: the same pair is included in our Tanjiro wig and earrings bundle at 49.99 euros, seven euros less than the two pieces bought separately (39.99 and 16.99). If the wig is on the list anyway, that is the way to go.
What the fifteen reviews say
4.9 out of 5, fifteen reviews including six with photos, left between April and August 2025 from eight countries: Mexico, Chile, United States, Costa Rica, United Kingdom, Japan, Spain and France. Fourteen fives, one four. What comes up: faithfulness to the drawing, lightness, and delivery speed.
The most useful comment comes from the United States, in May 2025: "bigger than expected but they are still light weight so that's good." That is accurate: the plate is longer than the anime shots suggest, where it looks tiny next to the face. Raúl, in Chile, notes they "don't fade"; Gabriela, also in Chile, in August 2025: "very pretty, exactly as described, arrived fast". Lorena, in Mexico, adds that these are "the second pair I order". The only 4 out of 5, from France: "not bad for the price", which sums up a 16.99 euro accessory well.
Two honest limits. The listing does not give the exact plate dimensions, only the photo lets you judge, and I would rather say so than let you find out. And the reviews mostly cover occasional wear: nobody has yet written how the clip-ons hold up after six months of daily use.

The Tanjiro cosplay around the earrings
The earrings are the cheapest and most identifying piece of the cosplay: with the forehead scar, they are enough to get Tanjiro recognised even without the haori. The rest of the range stacks up by visibility: the wig, the checkered haori, then the accessories.
| Piece | Price | Reviews | Role |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hanafuda earrings | 16.99 euros | 4.9/5 from 15 | The detail connoisseurs look for first |
| Tanjiro wig (alone or with the earrings) | 39.99 or 49.99 euros | 4.7/5 from 46 | Our best-selling Demon Slayer item |
| Tanjiro costume, checkered haori | 29.99 euros | 5/5 from 8 | Sizes M to XXXL |
| Tanjiro ring | 14.99 euros | 4.5/5 from 31 | Worn every day without announcing anything |
| Tanjiro and Rengoku LED frame | 29.99 euros | 4.9/5 from 22 | For the bedroom, not the convention |

Tanjiro and Giyu against Akaza: the Infinity Castle fight, in the VS trailer released by Aniplex USA.
To choose between Tanjiro, Nezuko, Shinobu or Obanai by budget, our Demon Slayer cosplay guide goes through every character in the range, with reviews and sizes. The scar is drawn with a dark red pencil: asymmetrical, starting on the left side of the forehead, a detail many people flip.
Wearing them without the cosplay
Yes, and that is what the review photos show: most customers wear them on their own hair, without wig or haori. Two white plates with a red sun pass for graphic, slightly Japanese-looking earrings. People who know Demon Slayer get it right away, everyone else sees a piece of jewellery.
It is the logic of Zoro's earrings, Doflamingo's glasses or Kamina's glasses: an accessory that signs the character without a costume, at an anime screening, a party or at school. For a first cosplay of any kind, our selection of ten easy characters explains which accessories are enough to get recognised.

On timing, the shop's rule: 7 to 21 days of delivery depending on destination, returns accepted within 14 days, and a month of margin before a convention. The earrings come in a small case, keep it: it is the best way not to lose one in a convention bag.
Where Demon Slayer stands, and why the earrings are back
In the Infinity Castle. The first film of the final trilogy has been streaming on Crunchyroll since 28 July 2026, in French, English, Spanish, Portuguese and German, after its theatrical run. The second part will not arrive before 2027, and the third is announced for 2029. Tanjiro still wears his earrings in it, including against Akaza.
Every film brings the searches on the character back, and the earrings with them: they are the accessory people look for when they want a discreet sign of the series without the full cosplay. Frequently asked questions about Tanjiro's earrings
Why does Tanjiro wear earrings?
Because he inherited them from his father, together with the Hinokami Kagura dance. Both come from Yoriichi Tsugikuni, the inventor of Sun Breathing, who entrusted them to the Kamados' ancestor. Tanjiro wears them at first without knowing where they come from.
What does hanafuda mean?
They are the Japanese playing cards illustrated with flowers, twelve months of four cards each. Tanjiro's earrings borrow their elongated format, not an actual motif from the game: the red sun and its rays are Koyoharu Gotōge's creation.
Why were the earrings changed in Korea and China?
Because the motif recalled the rising sun flag of the Japanese imperial army. Since 2019, broadcasters in those two countries show a version without rays, a red disc and a bar. Everywhere else, and on merchandise, the original design is kept.
Do the Tanjiro earrings exist for unpierced ears?
Yes. The listing offers three fastenings at the same price of 16.99 euros: clip-on for unpierced ears, pierced, and hook. The clip-ons also suit children for a one-day cosplay.
How big are Tanjiro's earrings?
The listing does not give dimensions, and an American customer found them bigger than expected while praising how light they are. Count on a plate noticeably longer than in anime shots, where it looks tiny. The review photos give the right scale.
How long does delivery take?
7 to 21 days depending on destination, with tracking. Several reviews mention fast delivery, but keep a month of margin before a convention. Returns accepted within 14 days.
